Case study 2: The Social Kitchen, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow

A stylish kitchen can be the focal point of a house, but how it works on a day-today basis is arguably more important than how it looks.

In the case of this Enniskerry kitchen, the owners purchased a 1990s bungalow, which they set about extending and renovating – with an eye for how good design can make day-to-day living more convenient.

‘‘The clients wanted to renovate the building to more closely match modern ideas about living and entertaining. They love to entertain and they love to cook, but they also wanted to be able to talk to and socialise with their friends as they cook,” says Gary Mongey of Dublin firm Box Architecture.
